Joseph W. Stock passed away peacefully in Stuart, Florida on June 15, 2020 after a short illness. He was born in NYC on February 9, 1929 to Joseph and Veronica Kennedy Stock. His father passed away soon after his birth, leaving his mother to raise both him and his older sister Yvonne. Joe enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1946. He served for three years as a fighter plane mechanic, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. Joe was called back to service during the Korean War where he was deployed on the carrier, USS Oriskany. After the Marine Corps, Joe met Mary Hayes at the O’Neill House in the Catskills, N.Y. They were married on May 1, 1954. Joe then joined the NYC Police Department, where he served as a highway patrolman. He retired after 23 years and then worked as an investigator for Marine Midland Bank and the Bank of New York. As a person, Joe was a man of integrity. He had strong moral principles and chose honesty in all things. Joe offered to help others in need, showed respect to everyone, and was humble despite his accomplishments. He was extremely proud of his family, his country and his community. Joe and Marie bought their house in Little Neck in 1962, where they raised five children. He was civically active, helping to resurrect the Little Neck/Douglaston Memorial Day Parade. After five years as chairman from 1974 to 1979, he continued on the parade committee for several decades. Joe was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5911 and a Past Grand Knight. He was also active with the Bayside Boys Club. Joe is survived by his wife Mary (Marie) of 66 years, son James (Enid), grandson Matthew (Noelle), great grandson Warren, granddaughter, Ally; son Michael (Heather), grandchildren Thomas and Katie; son John (Kelly) and grandchildren John and Ashley. He was predeceased by his son Joseph Jr. and daughter, Mary Geralyn. Due to the pandemic, the family has decided to honor Joe with a memorial service and celebration of his life at a future date.
