Bonna Bishop passed away on June 14, 2020. During her more than 107 years of life Bonna Marguerite Bequette Bishop enjoyed a series of great adventures. Born in Livingston, MT, Bonna subsequently lived in the states of Washington, Montana, Illinois, Wisconsin and New York. Always a journalist at heart, she worked in jobs ranging from selling ice cream to public stenographer. During her work in Helena MT, she was blessed with her daughter. In 1942 Bonna enrolled in college. Her essay written during 1945 winter recess defining the role of the public in maintaining the free press brought her a silver medal in a national competition. Upon graduating with her BA from the Madison School of Journalism at the University of Wisconsin, Bonna worked for a Mid-West advertising agency. In 1947 she moved to New York and worked as an associate editor for Furniture Magazine. She made her way into Conde` Nast as a secretary to the fashion editor at Vogue and then on to work as a copywriter at House and Garden Magazine. Bonna met her future husband during a ski trip in the Berkshires. Soon after they were married, Bonna “retired” to their home in Queens Village to raise their three sons. Bonna became a Pack 333 Den Mother, President of the Sacred Heart Parish Rosary Society and an entertaining piano player. Bonna is responsible for 20 lives being bought into this world – 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren – so far. Her life was blessed with interesting events and people. In later years there was world travel and – always – loving family. It is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one, especially your Mother, yet in these strange times where we have become a bit desensitized to heartbreak, there seems to be so many people offering comfort to the mourners. It has been a trying few weeks. The funeral arrangements, per government mandate, will be very small and limited to our family. As my Mom would say, “live for the present, respect the people around you and be open to change”. In Bonna’s loving memory donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, 115-20 221 Street, Cambria Heights, N.Y. 11411.
